Come see a spectacular performance of the 2025 We Rock Academy, a free recording and performance workshop for youth who have a history of, or are currently receiving CYF services, led by Liz Berlin of the multi-platinum Pittsburgh band Rusted Root and sponsored by the Allegheny County Department of Human Services.
We Rock Academy students explore the creation of music and learn meaningful ways to incorporate music into their lives through weekly in-person professional recording sessions where participants collaborate to create original songs, as well as private lessons in vocal coaching, songwriting, recording, beat making, and song production.
The incredible talent and hard work of our amazing students will be showcased at the We Rock Workshop Album Drop Celebration on April 24th, 2025, at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale, PA. You will hear brand new original music performed live, as well as special appearances by Liz Berlin (of the triple-platinum band Rusted Root), cosmic jazz chanteuse Phat Man Dee, Agape, and legendary Pittsburgh MC’s Big Jus and Deezil Money!
And as if that wasn’t enough there will also be free food and beverages at this all ages event!

Blues is the teacher. Punk is the Preacher. It’s all about emotion and energy. Experience and
raw talent, spirit and intellect. Exciting things happen when these things collide.
Bob Vennum and Lisa Kekaula made The BellRays happen in 1990 in Riverside, California but
they weren’t really thinking about any of this then. They wanted to play music and they wanted
it to feel good. They wanted people to WANT to get up, to NEED to get up and check out what
was going on. Form an opinion. React.
So they took everything they knew about; the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, the Who, the Ramones Billie Holiday, Lou Rawls, Hank Williams, the DB’s, Jimmy Reed, and Led Zeppelin (to name a very few to whom “BLUES IS THE TEACHER”) and pressed it into service.
Those bands and artists have since become “buzz words”, things to imitate and sound like. That was never The BellRays intention. The BellRays were never about coming up with a “sound”, or fitting in with a scene. It was about the energy that made all that music so irresistible. The BellRays’ influences learned from the Blues and then learned how to to make it their own. The Beatles wanted to play R&B, converted that energy and invented “Rubber Soul”. The Ramones were trying to be Del Shannon or Neil Sedaka and out came “Rocket to Russia”.
The BellRays believe combining Rock and Soul is not meant to be a conscious effort. You shouldn’t have to force them together because they’ve never really been separated in the first place. It’s an organic trail that flows through Bob and Lisa and the current rhythm section of Bernard Yin (Fur Dixon, Par Avion ) on bass and Dusty Watson (the Sonics, Dick Dale) on drums, and comes out honest and urgent. You will learn and you will feel. Blues is always teaching and Punk is always preaching.

Olive Klug refuses to be put in a box. Working out who you are in front of an ever-growing audience is no small task, but one that the Portland-born, Nashville-based singer/songwriter is up for and thriving.
Olive graduated with a liberal arts degree shortly before the 2020 pandemic derailed their plans of pursuing a career in social work. Though they'd recorded and self-released the 2019 EP "Fire Alarm" from a childhood friend's bedroom, up until early 2021, Olive categorized their music as either a hobby or a pipe dream, depending on who was asking. However, after being laid off of a teaching job in late 2020, Olive starting working as a barista and decided to commit all of their extra energy to an ever-growing community of fans online.
Olive can't help but be unapologetically themselves, something their community of fans (dubbed the "Klug Bugs" on Instagram and Discord) appreciate most about them. Their debut LP ranges from a playful Americana romp about "watching all the rules disintegrate" to folk-punk anthem "Coming of Age," which somehow manages to reference both pop singer Taylor Swift and existential philosopher Kierkegaard in one song, to "Parched"'s haunting modern ballad about a doomed relationship, to an indie rock closer about learning to take up space as a person with a marginalized identity. Through this no-holds-barred documentation of the struggles of their early adulthood, Klug embraces all their inner contradictions with reckless abandon.

Shallow Alcove is a band of friends fronted by Grace Krichbaum and Dan Harris, with Peter Groppe, Jack Harrington, and Noah Dadaris. They combine stacked vocal harmonies, catchy guitar riffs, and diary-like lyrics to form a tender soundtrack to young adulthood. Shallow Alcove’s music is based in their love of DIY folk music and colored with narratives of friendship, the changing of the seasons, bad haircuts, and the ache of growing up. What started as friends writing songs in the bedrooms and basements of Upstate New York has since shifted to the apartments and studios of New York City and Philadelphia, but Shallow Alcove’s roots have remained the same: story-telling with the people they love.

As they began working on a new batch of songs, Adeem the Artist was busy thinking about the way a lifetime of experiences can pile up in a person’s brain. “Traumatic events and warm events leave psychological imprints — there’s this pattern to it,” says the Knoxville, Tennessee-based performer. “Different moments and different impressions throughout our lives will ripple out and demand repeated engagement. They play out in little holidays that we celebrate over and over.”
Those patterns and markers of time are a crucial thread running through Adeem’s new album Anniversary, due out May 3, 2024 via Thirty Tigers. Will it all just stay the same?” asks songwriter Tyler Asay on “Forever”, the first single from The Tisburys’ new album, A Still Life Revisited. Recorded at Dr. Dog’s Mt. Slippery studio in the suburbs of Philadelphia with their longtime engineer/producer Justin Nazario, A Still Life Revisited is The Tisburys’ most collaborative effort to date. In an era where “bands” are seen as one individual, this is truly a “band record” with every member contributing songwriting and production ideas (especially from longtime lead guitarist John Domenico and keyboardist/co-producer Jason McGovern). “The goal with this record was ‘everything in its right place” says Asay. “Every instrument is playing its part and every song came together like a puzzle”. While their last album (2022’s Exile On Main Street) channeled 90s radio rock such as Gin Blossoms and The Replacements, A Still Life Revisited pushes into the aughts with the rustic bombast of millennial indie such as Frightened Rabbit and The Hold Steady. With themes that tackle memory & chosen family, A Still Life Revisited overflows with songs that find home in both packed dive bars and stadiums. It’s about looking back at your life, the choices and decisions you’ve made, and celebrating where you ended up today. The album was mixed by Phil Joly (The Strokes, Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey), mastered by Ryan Schwabe (Beach Bunny, Slaughter Beach Dog, Hop Along).
& Super City's: Melodic and guitar driven, Super City is known for their hooky pop sound that blends heavy rock elements and danceability, all with coordinated band choreography that results in killer live performances. This Baltimore band expertly crafts guitar and synth earworms that thrive on the creative tension between bombastic rock and roll and stylized movements. Alison's Halo was formed in Tempe, Arizona during the fall of 1992 by Catherine Cooper (Vocals/Guitar), Adam Cooper (Guitar), David Rogers (Bass/vocals) and Roger Brogan (Drums/Percussion). Within months of formation the band burst onto the local scene and immediately began securing shows with national acts (The Verve, Ultra Vivid Scene, Curve, The Boo Radleys, Stereophonics, Medicine, Lovesliescrushing, Bailter Space and many others) as well as being invited to perform at numerous music festivals around the country.
The Dozen/Calendar single was released by the legendary Independent Project Records in 1995 to wonderful national reviews and extensive college radio airplay. The single's beautiful blend of chiming guitar noise and Catherine's breathtaking melodies perked many an ear and led to the band loading up the van and heading out for a successful string of tour dates around the country.
Their debut full-length, Eyedazzler, was recorded to various 2, 4, & 8 porta-studio cassettes from 1992-1996 and released on Detroit's Burnt Hair Records in 1998. This stunning collection of songs has only grown in popularity since its original release and has been ranked among the top shoegaze and dreampop records from the golden eras of both genres.

She has been making waves with her band, the Muleskinners. mc chris is most widely known for his reoccurring character MC P Pants on Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force where he was also an animator and writer. He’s been featured in the Aqua Teen movie, the video game and most recently on a series of You Tube videos called Aqua Donk Side Pieces. He’s also starred on several Adult Swim series including The Brak Show and Sealab 2021. When he’s not voicing some of his iconic late-night characters, he’s a full-time touring rapper. A pioneer of the hip hop subgenre Nerdcore, mc chris has worked with Talib Kweli, Andrew WK, and Donald Glover. His fans include the likes of Gerard Way, Post Malone and T-Pain and he was even sampled by Run the Jewels for the latest Aqua Teen movie Plantasm. He’s toured with Reggie and Full Effect, Ninja Sex Party, Warped Tour, appeared on a GWAR album, performed at the gathering of the Juggalos and even had his own Honda commercial. Recently mc chris launched a podcast called None of This Matters with Dana Snyder the voice of Master Shake on Aqua Teen Hunger Force. mc chris is the widely accepted soundtrack to nerd culture. Not only does he rhyme about what nerds love most, but he was one of the first performers to encourage nerds to take pride in themselves and what they care about. He’s a full-time single father to his son, Tony, and lives in Los Angeles.
