Wed 02/17 Tortoise with special guests Disappears 8:00pm All Ages
The great majority of artists spend their formative years, if not their entire careers, working to shake off the gravitational pull of their predecessors, and the many masters and masterpieces that came before them. Rare indeed is the artist who outgrows their early influences, and instead become one of the markers by which other groups are measured. Almost alone among bands of the last two decades, Tortoise is a group that resists easy metaphors and analogies, who can be described as sounding like only themselves and no one else. Twenty years after its founding, the band's signature and singularly inimitable sound-a fluid intersection of dub, dance, jazz, techno, rock, and classical minimalism, with no part overwhelming or dominating the whole-remains an American and international original.

Thu 02/18 The Emptiness Tour featuring Alesana, A Skylit Drive, Of Mice and Men, The Word Alive, We Came As Romans 6:30pm All Ages
Moments before stepping out onto the stage at a sold-out show in Helsinki, Finland, Alesana, comprised of frontman/vocalist Dennis Lee, vocalist/guitarist Shawn Milke, guitarist Patrick Thompson, drummer Jeremy Bryan, bassist Shane Crump, and guitarist Jake Campbell, took a moment to reflect on the last five years. “Remember our first practice space?” asked a nostalgic Dennis. “Look how far we have come. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m about to rock the faces off a bunch of Finnish kids. Let’s do this!” Getting set to release third album The Emptiness, Alesana’s devoted international fanbase is living proof that the right combination of talent, creativity, hard work and dedication to fans can go a long, long way.

Fri 02/19 Twiztid with special guests Blaze, Kung Fu Vampire, The Gemini Projekt 7:00pm All Ages
Pop music is a bloated, rotting corpse and The Wicked Shit is the undead pulse hidden deep within. If you look into the shadows, past the smoke and mirrors of MTV and playlist radio, and into the cold, hard streets, you’ll find the underground of music. A place where innovation thrives and inspiration drives. Unapologetic, unique artists have carved a niche for fans fed up with the glamour-mag faces and spoon-fed lyrics of modern music, and offer them something more. Where most rappers celebrate the urban lifestyle with the same old themes and the same old image, Twiztid peel away the gloss and expose the innards. With an oversized butcher knife. They take the hard edge of theatrical rock-and-roll and temper it with gritty hip-hop to create a musical monstrosity so dangerously real it must be hidden with facepaint.

Sun 02/21 Unearth with special guests Veil of Maya and Armed for Apocalypse, Ascend The Fallen, Hollowpoint 6:30pm All Ages
Countless bands have been inspired by the abundance of radio-friendly hooks and choruses surfacing in today's popular metalcore. Unearth are the exception. While other groups have been motivated to make their songs more commercial, Unearth have gone the opposite direction. "A lot of our friends who used to be in kick-ass metal and hardcore bands are adding these pop choruses now for no reason," grumbles frontman Trevor Phipps. "I think they're making the same mistakes that all the bands in the early '90s made when metal turned to complete horseshit. They're totally watering down their tunes to sell more records. We're just trying to prove that bands can still sell records and tour and have a career by making a heavy fucking record."
