Wed 07/06 Guided By Voices with special guests Pet Clinic 8:00pm All Ages
Twenty-two years ago in 1994, 38-year-old school teacher Robert Pollard & his merry band recorded Bee Thousand in a Dayton, Ohio basement on a 4-track cassette recorder. This improbable rock classic became an enormously influential album; Spin and Pitchfork have called it one of the best records of the ’90s, and Amazon picked Bee Thousand as #1 on their list of the 100 Greatest Indie Rock Albums Of All Time. An amazing live band with a rabid following, the Washington Post called GBV “the Grateful Dead equivalent for people who like Miller Lite instead of acid!” After 22 albums, 24 solo records and countless side projects, Pollard has recorded a new GBV album by himself and has assembled an exciting new GBV line-up for 2016 touring: Nick Mitchell (guitar), Bobby Bare Jr (guitar), Mark Shue (bass) and Kevin March (drums).

Sun 07/10 91.3 WYEP presents Hurray for the Riff Raff with special guest Daddy Long Legs 8:00pm All Ages
Hurray For The Riff Raff is Alynda Lee Segarra, but in many ways it's much more than that: it's a young woman leaving her indelible stamp on the American folk tradition. If you're listening to her new album, 'Small Town Heroes,' odds are you're part of the riff raff, and these songs are for you. "It's grown into this bigger idea of feeling like we really associate with the underdog," says Segarra, who came to international attention in 2012 with 'Look Out Mama.' The album earned her raves from NPR and the New York Times to Mojo and Paste, along with a breakout performance at the 2013 Newport Folk Festival, which left American Songwriter "awestruck" and solidified her place at the forefront of a new generation of young musicians celebrating and reimagining American roots music.

Fri 07/15 91.3 WYEP presents Shakey Graves with special guests Streets Of Laredo 9:00pm All Ages
Billing himself only as "A Gentleman From Texas," Shakey Graves' monumental rise into the spotlight has always been shrouded in mystery. The on-stage persona of Austin native Alejandro Rose-Garcia, Shakey Graves began as a private creative outlet. His folky, esoteric bedroom recordings quickly developed a cult following, and he soon began performing live as a one-man band, with a knack for storytelling and an enigmatic stage presence that immediately draws listeners into his strange narrative world. With the release of his recent album "And The War Came" on Dualtone Records, Shakey Graves has become something much bigger. Now joined on stage by a backing band, Shakey Graves is selling out major venues around the country, has appeared on Conan, Letterman and Seth Myers, taped an episode of Austin City Limits, and recently won the Americana Music Association's "Emerging Artist of the Year" award.

Sun 07/17 91.3 WYEP presents Dawes with special guest Kathleen Edwards 8:00pm All Ages
"And may all your favorite bands stay together," sings Taylor Goldsmith on the title track to Dawes' fourth album, All Your Favorite Bands, on their own HUB Records, harking back to a time when that very special rock group helped define who you were, expressing the joy and passion the foursome put into the release. "Your favorite band can identify you, express how you see yourself," explains Goldsmith, who co-wrote the song with Jonny Fritz and is the sole author of the album's other eight tracks. "They enable you to articulate your feelings through the way they play their instruments and the lyrics."

Mon 07/18 Opus One & PromoWest North Shore Presents Zakk Wylde - Book of Shadows II with special guests Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown, Jared James Nichols 8:00pm All Ages
Don’t ask what Zakk Wylde has been up to in the two decades that passed between the release of the singer and guitar legend’s debut solo album, Book of Shadows, and its newly-minted, equally moving and introspective sequel, Book of Shadows II. In all truthfulness, a better question would be, “What hasn’t Zakk Wylde gotten into?” He kicked booze before it killed him and now squeezes endless joy from life with both fists. He’s possessed of boundless energy, relentless enthusiasm, and insurmountable charm. His limitless strength of will allows him to lord over a mini-empire that includes Wylde Audio, The Black Vatican recording studio, hot sauces, and Wylde’s very appropriately named Valhalla Java Odinforce Blend coffee. Sure, artists like St. Vincent and Arcade Fire have gotten into the caffeinated beverage game, but none draw the same inhuman power from the magic beans as Wylde.

Mon 07/25 WPTS Radio presents Daughter with special guest Julien Baker 8:00pm All Ages
Question: just how do you go about trying to match an album as peerless, wholly immersive, and as widely acclaimed and adored as Daughter's 2013 debut 'If You Leave?' Simple: up the ante on every level. Building on that record's gloriously dark intensity, wracked emotion and come-hither diaphanous textures, 'Not To Disappear,' the new full-length release from the London-based trio -- singer/guitarist Elena Tonra, guitarist/producer Igor Haefeli and drummer Remi Aguilella -- is a mighty declaration of intent. Profoundly ruminative and lugubrious, bold and direct, it's arguably even more assertive and compelling than its much-lauded predecessor.

Tue 07/26 Parachute - The Wide Awake Tour with special guests Brynn Elliott, Jerad Finck 7:30pm All Ages
Back when they were in high school, Parachute’s Will Anderson (vocals, guitar), Johnny Stubblefield (drums), and Christopher “Kit” French (saxophone, keyboards) spent nearly every afternoon in Anderson’s basement, dreaming up songs showing a deep affinity for classic pop, heart-felt rock, and tuneful blue-eyed soul. Now, after a decade of touring internationally and turning out smash singles like “She is Love” (#1 at iTunes) and “Can’t Help” (the first single from the band’s 2013 album Overnight, which debuted at #15 on the Billboard Top 200 chart), Parachute are set to deliver a new album that reclaims the spirit that first sparked their love of music. “Making this record felt just like that one hour after school when we were kids,” says Anderson of Wide Awake, the band’s fourth full-length album. “It was like we were all 15 again and just starting to discover that excitement of creating songs together.”

Sat 07/30 Marianas Trench - SPF 80s Tour with special guest Skylar Stecker 8:00pm All Ages
When Marianas Trench’s lead singer Josh Ramsay came up with the title Astoria, he saw the album as a concept record based on 1980’s fantasy adventure films; specifically The Goonies, which is set in the seemingly doomed town of Astoria, Oregon. The idea was to let a classic coming of age movie inspire the music and overall feel of the record. Then, however, Ramsay had no idea the circumstances in his own life would result in a personal journey that took him from the highest high to the darkest point in his life and career. “A couple of years ago I felt on top of the world,” he says: “My band, finally, after years of work, signed a huge American record deal. We were headlining arenas in Canada. I’d been nominated for a Grammy for ‘Call Me Maybe,’ (Carly Rae Jepsen). I was engaged to the love of my life and it was like, this is my moment.”
